Default dvd+rw compatabilty problem

I recently purchased some dvd+rw discs (Ok i know this was a mistake).
I have used them over and over again without problems using a sony RDR-
HXD970 Recorder.
I then made the mistake of erasing them with nero 7 when i had take
the files off the discs.
The sony recorder does not recognise the discs anymore.
Do i need to re-format/erase the discs on the pc using different
software?
I have tried with dvd author 1.6.

Thanks

I erase DVD+RW's on my computer all the time and my Panasonic has
no trouble recognizing them. Nero has both a quick and full erase
function. You might try both of them.

Tried both full and quick erase.
If i write to the disc via the pc it will then play in the recorder no
problem. It just will not record to the disc in the sony recorder. I
have other dvd+rw discs exactly the same which are all ok but i know
if i erase them with nero or dvd author they will then not be
recordable in the sony recorder.
If i try to format the disc in the sony recorder it says insert
recordable disc.

Help!!!!

Try burning the disc with ImgBurn. It often suggests here that
+RW discs previously burned by Nero5 need to be "properly
formatted." After doing so, both programs read and write the
disc error free and the condition is not raised again when the
disc is next burned by both. ImgBurn will do a full format only
when it determines that the disc requires formatting and when
Tools, Settings, Write, Prefer properly formatted +RW is ticked.
Otherwise it will do a Quick Format.

Clicker thanks for the advice.

Story so far...
I had 3 discs that were in the condition i described. I have done what
you said and now two of them are fine. I have tried numerous times
with the other to no avail.

I noticed that when two of the discs were checked with imgburn they
showed as erasable..Yes & formatted.. No These are
now formatted and are ok.
The disc i am now having trouble with shows as erasable and formatted.
It will record from the pc and play perfectly well in the sony
recorder. But still will not record in the sony.
I have tried quick erase & full erase in imgburn. I have tried
writting to the disc with imgburn then tried to format it in the sony.
I have erased it again with nero then with imgburn. No matter what i
do it will not format or record in the sony recorder.

Anything else i should try? Or should i do the sensible thing and bin
it?

Thanks

At the price of +RW media, it doesn't seem worth the effort.
When I get troublesome discs, I save them in an old, small
sleeve. When someone else needs media, I offer them free with
the caveat that I've had problems with the discs. Generally,
since they want to do something different with the disc than I
might have wanted to do, it works for them. This might be true
of your case.

Problem sorted.

After recording a full disc on the Sony recorder I then copied the
disc using Nero (Copy DVD) I set the book type to dvd+rw.
Now the disc works fine in all recorders.

I did notice in imgburn discover that it had the discs last recording
as DVD-ROM before I did the copy. This was the case even after the
disc had been erased with imgburn. Now it shows it as dvd+rw.
It looks like the problem stemmed from the incorrect setting in Nero?

Thanks for your help
