I know that digital tuners are now available in dvd recorders.
What do they pick up? Is it just over the air or would they
pick up regular cable channels as well? Any info will be
appreciated.

They usually have cable tuners (Not digital cable) and ATSC.
If you look closely there are many models being released with NO tuners
period. You have to use your Cable Box or Satellite tuner.

Digital tuners are supposed to pick up digital HDTV signal off
antenna. Supposedly you can use the same antenna you may have for
older TV as they just pick up radio waves and carry them over wires.

The Digital Tuners are ATSC and pick up OTA via antenna.
