Default Copying Region 2 disk to region 1?

I have a copy protected DVD from region 1. Would prefer to purchase a
playable copy for region 1 . . . but it is not available.

Any recommendations for software that will get around the copy protection
and give me a workable copy for the US?

Your DVD player may be able to play it without making a copy. Enter the
player's make and model number at www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks to find out.
