I bought a Magnavox vhs+dvd recorder
Model #ZV427MG9 mainly to transfer vhs tapes and old 8mm films to dvds.
I also wanted to record movies off of comcast digital cable. Channels
like Encore, Hallmark, Sundance, Retro, Flix, and even pay per view.
The dvd recorder will not record them. I get a message saying not
recordable in +vr mode. And E45 is in the corner of the screen. I know
if you buy movies on tape or dvd they have copy guard so you can't
record them. But on tv?
My brother said he can record movies on his dvd recorder, it has a dvr
attached to it.
Does anybody have a dvd recorder and are able to record movies? Please
let me know the brand. I've called Magnavox and they are no help at all.
One girl told me maybe I got a bad batch of dvds. I got another
brand, and they didn't work. I called again and a guy said it was copy
guard. I e-mailed them two times,I got two ticket # but no reply.

I don't klnow if my situation parallels yours or not, but if so, it could be
that Comcast is emitting record-blocking signals and your recorder picks up
on them and shuts down. I have a panasonic on which I can record just about
anything, and two LG's that shut down when I try to record off certain
channels. In fact, if I am recording from one to the other and my satellite
received is on one of th restricted channels, the LG will shut down.
I've had a Toshiba and a LiteOn that allowed me to record from any channel I
had access to.
I haven't tried recording direct from my AT&T Uverse box yet. But I
have recorded on the DVR and then dubbed it to a DVD recorder. If you
hook up any other kind of cable to the DVR while the HDMI cable is
still hooked up, it gives you a full screen warning on all out puts,
ruining your recording. You have to unhook the HDMI cable.

My suggestion is: Return the recorder immediately. It will not do what you
want it to do. IOW, it's the wrong tool for the job.
**I have finally gotten an e=mail reply from the magnavox. They said
the cable company is sending the no copy signal. I called comcast and
the girl said she would do something to my cable box and it would work.
I tried it after I hung up it didn't work .I called again and another
girl said it can't be done.
I went to radio shack to see if they had a recorder that would record
these movies. It turned out she had the same magnavox that I had .She
also had a panasonic. She was very nice and tried to figure out the
problem. I would have tried the panasonic but she was so nice I would
have felt bad bringing it back. I'm going to return the magnavox to K
Mart.
I might try the panasonic out and let them know that I will bring it
right back if it doesn't work.
I'm also going to e-mail magnovox and ask why have the copy guard
receiver built into there recorder.
