Can I Erase/Reformat DVD+R DL RW ?

Just installed a new dual layer optical drive. Works as expected
accept one thing. I can't erase/reformat a DVD+R DL RW disc? I've
always been able to do so with a single layer, 4.7 Gb DVD RW disc. I
use Nero 7. Nero will erase/reformat a 4.7Gb DVD+R RW but not a dual
layer.

My guess is the answer is basic. I just don't know it. Please help.

Did you install the software that came with the new drive, or are you just
using the old software? Probably Nero needs to be updated with a patch to
recognize the full capabilities of the new drive. In any case, I'd make
sure you have the newest version of Nero before anything else.

Using all new software and updated the firmware on the new drive. I
learned on another newsgroup that DVD+R DL RW are not eraseable or
reformattable.

DVD+R DL are not rewritable discs. You're looking for DVD+RW DL discs,
which I believe aren't even out yet.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that the name/logo of the +R/RW
license holder is "RW". So keep in mind that just because "RW" appears
somewhere on the media doesn't mean it's rewritable.
