I forgot to say that the files are downloads from BBC iPlayer and the
software I have tried produces a garbled result. Is some sort of
encryption applied to these files?

There were a lot of other 'womble' derivatives there and it was probably
wood for the trees for me!
It doesn't mention wmv to vob but I will download it and see.
Thanks Gene.

You may want to try the MVW-DVD version to get the VOB output USING
audio in AC3 format/codex.

OK, out of fairness (me being fair? hah!) I'll give you the link I
think is right:
This is "MPEG Video Wizard DVD", which is the current version of what I
believe people mean when they say Womble. It's what Rick Merrill
referred to as "the MVW-DVD version" in his reply.
There is a link for a free trial there too.
To tell the truth, I find the site a bit confusing...

Well now. I tried with DVD and without DVD and they both failed to load
..wmv files so I couldn't get any further. As these files were downloaded
from BBC iPlayer I assume they may be copy protected, as I can't copy
them from a Sky+ box Satellite receiver) onto a DVD either. Looks like I
can't do what I want.
Thanks Gene and Rick. Womble looks as though it could be useful anyway,
so I will play with it a bit longer,

Download the latest Windows Media Encoder software from microsoft and then
install it. Then all of the other programs that support WMV should be able to
work.
