Default Time to read DVD?

I have been using hard drives as a backup for my data and I would like
to know about using DVD as a backup store instead.

How long would it take a fairly cheap DVD read-writer drive to read the
full 4.7 GB of data from a DVD+R disc?

Depends on the system. I had a data DVD handy which contains a 3.4 GB zip
file, and gave it a try. It took me 8 minutes and 5 seconds to copy it to a
hard drive. So you can extrapolate from that.

Easily under 10 minutes with current drives, faster if you use plain
DVD-ROM for reading and leave the DVD burning for writing only.

A 16x DVD-ROM could in theory do entire dual layer 9GB in under 10
minutes but it mostly depends on your PC.
