Default Standalone hard disk with video's?

I have no computer. Still I want to transfer all my video tapes to one
or more hard disk(s) (preferably standalone or exchangable in a DVD
recorder) and want to be able to view them from there, preferably
directly on a TV (or via a DVD recorder). Is that already possible,
and what machine could do the trick?

Get a Panasonic Digital Video Recorder with a hard disk. You can copy a video to the hard drive, edit it if you like, and then copy it to a DVD.

Panasonic does not currently sell any DVR's with inbuilt hard drives, at
least not in the US.
