Default Rebooting to avoid coasters

In order to avoid coasters, I have to reboot before writing to DVDs with
either DVD Decrypter or CDBurnerXP Pro 3. Do I have an error in my Windows
XP settings or my setup for my BENQ DVD DD DW1650? Immediately after a
reboot I have never generated a coaster. Without a reboot, I generate
coasters over 1/2 the time. I had the same problem with a prior Sony drive
which I replaced because of the problem.

For the info of those in West Sussex, BBC News are reporting that all 11
Council Recycling centres in the county now have specific facilities for
recycling CD/DVDs.

I think you must, because I burn data DVDs with CD Burner XP Pro and
have never had that problem.

Sorry, but I don't know which specific settings to suggest you look
at.

OK, here's a WAG: the OP has Windows set up to allow writing to CDs &
DVDs on the fly. (Sort of: the Windows implementation of that is a bit
strange, in my view.)

On my XP machine, I have this:
Right click on the CD/DVD drive in the folder pane of Windows Explorer
and choose Properties
Click on the "Recording" tab.
Uncheck "Enable CD recording on this drive".
OK all the way out.

My experience is that enabling CD recording interferes with all sorts
of things, so I keep it turned off on my computer.

Also, even if Windows is not set up to do that, perhaps his CD/DVD
burning software - such as Nero - is. I would disable that if so, but I
have no S/W of my own to look at to suggest how one might do that.

If this is not the problem, sorry, it's my only idea :-(

Every year or so I get something right. This looks like my 2008
victory.

I'm glad it worked out!
