I prefer nice labels on the disks I make for myself.

Wierd, pointless arguments over opinion (and too often over
fact) abound on usenet.

When I used DVD+RWs to archive captured video, I merely numbered
the discs and their corresponding slim jewel cases, and
maintained an HTML table as a directory to the content. I never
considered that the DVDs or their content would be kept
indefinitely - all 800 and much of their content are now gone.

A/V presently is kept here on SATA drives and the only change
needed to indexing was the letters assigned to these media.
Now, what had filled 800 DVDs would fit on four 1 terabyte
drives - about 130 cubic inches of shelf space replaced more
than 4000 cubic inches.

Rewriteables like you state are a different animal all together and it would
be retarded to put a permanant marker or ligjhtscribe label on one of those.
But i prefer to make my disks look nice. I have the time, and talent to make
my stuff look nice. I cant speak for others.
