Default Question: How can I make a Region 2 Disc Play on a Region 1 Player?

Hey all,

I have this Euro DVD I want to play. I hacked all my DVD players but
one to be region free. The one I really want to play it on I can't.

Any help appreciated.

It depends, of course, on the player. Some players accept
a code which you enter with your remote to make it multi-region.
I had a Phillips with such capability (I haven't tried it with
my Sony player).

You can find these codes in various sites. Go here for
a pageful of links that will take you where you want to go:

http://www.doom9.org/

Go to the links page.

I've tried all the hacks. There must be a way to convert the disc?

PS The hacks work on my 2 Phillips, but not on my Sony.

Here's the thing: each brand and model of drive has its own hack, or
none at all. The Sony seems to be in the second category.

Note that the disc is a pressed disc - you can't change the actual
disc.

I have a large PDF file of DVD (player) unlock codes, including many
Sony models.

Give me an email address to send it to, or the name of an appropriate
newsgroup and I'll post it.

I appreciate all your help, but I remember reading in this group that
you can copy the disc to your hard drive, change and option or two in
a file and then reburn it as region 1.

Am I mistaken?

Thanks for helping out guys,

Let's try that another way:

Method 1:

* Turn on the unit with the remote control.
* Wait until "no disc" appears in the unit's display.
* Press pause, 3,1,3,1,5,9.
* The word "Code " should appear in the display.
* Wait 5 seconds, press the key that corresponds to the zone you want,
0 for region free, 1 for 1, 2 for 2, etc.
Again, within 5 seconds press Pause and Power.

Method 2:

* Put the player into Standby mode.
* Press 1 and Return on the remote for region 1, 2 and Return for
region 2, etc. - 0 and Return to return player to default setting.
* Press P-Mode and Return to play dvd's with the selected region, auto
switching is off.
* Press Audio and Return for auto-switching On.
* Press Angle and Return for MacroVision On.
* Press Subtitle and Return for MacroVision Off.

DVD Shrink is what you're after. Of couse the issue may be that being a
region 1 player may mean its NTSC only as well.
