I'm trying out Nero 7.5.5.0 to copy a dvd and am having a problem after
hitting the "burn" button...
I've used DvdShrink to get the movie onto my hard drive in a video_ts file,
and Nero accepts the file when I select it to begin a record, but after I
select burn, I get a window saying "Please insert disc" over the recode and
burn screen, so I put in a blank disc, waited a few minutes..and nothing
happens. The "Please insert disc" window doesn't go away, and meanwhile the
"analyzing disc" timer is ticking under status. If I close the "Please
insert" screen, I get "Process canceld by user". I've also tried having a
blank disc inserted before hitting Burn, and I still get the "Please insert"
window."

If you're using RW disks, maybe they need formatting.
In any case, try another disk or even another brand. You might have
been repeatedly trying your one bad disk :-)

I tried another disc and still no go. Inserted blank, I get a brief, little
disc icon on the recode screen, but the "analyzing disc" timer just keeps on
counting and nothing happens...

OK, sorry it didn't help.
I'm considering blaming Nero - some people have had troubles with
it. Have you checked for updates to Nero?

It's the latest version available... I'm trying out the trial of it because
DvdShrink recommended it for it burning discs. Good thing I didn't purchase
it yet!
I'm gonna get some blank Sony disks on sale at BestBuy tonight (+R's). If
they don't work, I'll uninstall it try something else. I've heard some
people talking up Clone DVD 2 as being pretty good...

This disk compatibility thing is a PITA...
Glad it's working for you at last!

Sigh. Well I thought everything was hunky dory, but it's not.
Turned out of the 20 or so burns Ive made, only 5 play without problems. On
the others, within the first 10 minutes of playing back the main movie, I
get a pixelation freeze...
Any idea if this is a common and/or solveable problem with StartSmart?

Are you checking the "verify" box so the computer compares the burned disc
against the original files? What you describe sounds to me like the burner
is dying, not a software problem.
