Default Problem with my new DVD-player

Hello,

can anybody help me.

My DVD-player (Philips DVP 3040) started to lose tracking at the end of
a disk, so I bought a new player (Sony DVP-NS38).

Now this new player doesn't show all my DVDs properly but instead the
upper one third of the picture is shown three times on my TV on some of
my DVDs. I had no such problem with my earlier player.

Same TV, same SCART-cable, one player shows all my DVDs the other
doesn't. Both players are region free, but the problem isn't by region code.

My TV is quite old, but why does it work with one but not the other.

Can you tell me what could be the problem?

Your newer DVD player is probably somewhat cheaper in build and is producing
more jitter and skew on the outputted video.
Old TV's where quite in tolerant of this as they had no need to be as off
air signals suffer little of this.
Newer TV's are built to be more tolerant. So a new TV will sort it I'm sure.
if you try enough new DVD players you should find one that will be better or
perfect but a new TV is easier.

It could be a that the player is set for progressive scan but the TV is
interlaced. Or perhaps one is set for NTSC and the other is PAL.
