Default Panasonic dvd recorder won't record protected shows

Many shows I try to record from the cable box (Scientific Atlanta
Explorer 2200) won't record -- I get a message saying it was protected
content. these same shows record just fine on all my VCRs and on my
cheapo Cyberhome 1200 DVD recorder and on my HP media center
computer. the whole reason I bought the DMR-EH75VP-S was so I could
use it (and its IR blaster) to record shows while I am gone on trips.

How do I get it to record shows like all my other video recorders?

I've never heard of a hack to do what you want. Try an AVT8710 Time
Base Corrector.

http://www.avtoolbox.com/avt8710.shtml

I'm not sure if it will work between a cable box and a dvr, but my
buddy has one between his dvd/vcr and his dvr. It works quite nicely
to make back-up copies of protected shows and movies from cassettes
and from DVDs.

Maybe one of the experts here can verify if this thing will do what
you want.

Didn't you see my post on the group list on this just above yours (DRM
preventing cable channel DVD record) ?? go back & read it ...
virtually all DVD recorders as far as I know, have logic to block recording
of protected material, whether the source is a commercial DVD or a
cable/dish channel/show which has set a 'protect' flag ... The only
solutions to this thing are:
1) ***** to your cable provider about it ...... lots of luck of this one
!!!!!
2) find a DVD recorder genius that has hacked the recorder PROM logic to
ignore the copy protection (not much more likely than previous ... such
people certainly exist but probably
don't won't the liability plus too many recorder variations out there
....)
3) lay out around $100 for a Macrovision CGMS/A 'remover' that goes in
series in the DVD recorder input line .... Google the subject to find
these things .... I used an old 'Clarifer' from facetvideo & it resolved
the problem on my SA Explorer box hooked to TimeWarner .... but be
warned, aside from expense, that there's no guarantee these things will work
on your system if a higher/different level of protection exists .. if you
can borrow or find such a signal regenerator with a 15-30 day trial , that
would be way to go ...
4) if you have access to a PC with DVD writer, you may be able to record on
it (with proper video input setup) .... here again tho more recent PC gear
may cause a problem altho I think those problems are usually connected
with people trying to record HD digital signals which are more strongly
protected
5) always try 'googling' your problem too, even if you don't find a
solution, at least it's educating ... lot of other forums/venues out there
that may help

I think the use of DRM protection methods on cable channels (most especially
the HD signal outputs on HD package boxes) is not only here but will
probably continue to proliferate even on channels/shows even on the LD 480i
box outputs such as you & I are using right now. Maybe someone will have a
'cheap' hack but IMHO it's more likely such a fix will come thru the use of
PC's for recording because they provide a more flexible means to attack the
protection issues thru software ... jak

Will this item do what I want? http://www.facetvideo.com/xcart/cust...p?productid=83
It is the FacetVideo Classic Clarifier

Can I use it between the cable box and the DVR so the DVR will not see
any of the copy-protect info?
