Default PAL on a Playstation 3?

Does anyone know of anyway possible to get a PAL (Region 2) DVD to play on
an Region 1 Playstation 3? As an alternative, is there a download for my PC
to play Region 2 DVD's?

there may be a way, or not, depending who you listen to

http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question...7014956AAJMnYg

but I thought all PCs allowed a certain amount of region changes? I
may be wrong but anyway, wiki says
-------------------------------
[edit] Software DVD players
Most freeware and open source DVD players, such as VLC, ignore region
coding. Most commercial players are locked to a region code, but can
be easily changed with software.

Other software, known as DVD region killers, transparently remove (or
hide) the DVD region code from the software player. Some can also work
around locked RPC-2 firmware.

don't blame me for any of the above :O)

I appreciate this information, but perhaps a little more detail on my end is
in order. Someone had recommended downloading VLC Player that is suppose to
play all regions. It does and works fine on disc 1 of a 3 disc PAL format
DVD set. However, both disc 2 and 3, while trying to play the movie, produce
somewhat garbled sound and the image is intermixed with moving big blocks of
date. In other words, it almost works, but not quite. It seems like there is
just a little something missing to get it right.

Thinking this was 2 defective discs in the set, I had it replaces. The
second order is doing the same exact thing as the first set.

Any help or suggestions in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

well first thing I would do is try another software player. I am
wondering, though, if what it needs is to be told that each disc needs
to change region. anyway, I'm not an expert in this I just scrabble
around on the net til I hopefully come up with an answer.

Just guessing: The a/v is in fact PAL, the header info may be
inaccurate for discs 2 and 3.

Use IFOEdit to examine the IFO and VTS_0 of all three discs.
Look for the PAL setting is disc 1, compare that with 2 and 3.
If they are indeed different, you can also load the DVD content
into your PC and have IFOEdit change the setting in each. You
can Google <PAL IFOEdit> to find many examples.

Less likely, but not impossible, if these are commercially
produced DVDs.

For what it is worth, someone suggested AnyDVD, and low and behold, it works
wonders. In fact, it even works on my original Toshiba DVD Player, the one
now permanently set to Region 1, so now I can seem to play just about
everything - well, except Blue-ray of course. Likewise, while it is not
free, but the price will be well worth it, in the fact that it solved the
problem. I naturally am trying to 21 day trial version.

In addition, since the VLC Player that I also downloaded would not play
discs 2 or 3 of this PAL set, but the AnyDVD connection does, I uninstalled
the VLC Player. In addition, I really don't know what transpired here, what
was wrong before, what got fixed now, but the bottom line is - it works.
