MAG 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor being used as external monitor doesn't show DVD screen

Hey, I am trying to watch a DVD via my laptop on my external
monitor,

I can only see the movie on the laptop screen but external monitor is
showing a black screen,

I did install the drivers(I think) , what might be the problem??

on my tosh I have to set the external monitor to be the clone of the lap top
display.
