Default LPG DVD-recorder 'failed to divide' item

Hi guys. Apologies, if required, for any cross-posting of this. I've
an LPG DVB-T HDD/DVD Recorder. Today I recorded an item off-air, and
then wanted to divide it. Normally this is a simple process (except,
perhaps, at the very end of a disc - but this wasn't such a case).
However, when I attempted to do this, a message appeared onscreen
saying, 'Unable to divide disc'. The disc was a Verbatim +RW, and had
already been part used for recording. Any thoughts on why the item
wouldn't divide? (I tried more than once to do so, at different points
in the item.)

Thanks - Ken (in Oz)

"IF required"??? You didn't crosspost, which would have been venial
at most. Instead you multi-posted, which is exceedingly bad manners.

It's best to pick the one most relevant newsgroup. If you can't do
that, please learn to crosspost.

RWs I have found can "go off" and do not work very well. also the laser on
your drive may be near its time. or both as I have had.

RWs don't like prolonged exposure to light. they go temperamental.

I would suggest you copy this disk to a fresh one then try again.

Thanks Gary.

Another disc later did not present the problem. So I hope the laser is
not yet dying!

Why? When cross-posted there is only message and it is linked into
many newsgroups. When you multi-post you put up several copies.

Good newsreaders will note that if you read and item that is
cross-posted it won't show it in any other group to which you have
cross-posted it. If you mulit-post the readers will see multiple
copies and soon will start ignorning you.
