I have had a plasma for over 2 yrs now and used the connecting cables that
came with the cable box(DVR). Picture quality looks fine to me. In fact, I
even called Time Warner and asked if HDMI cables were really needed? they
downplayed them thus I didn't buy any.
Will I see any difference if I upgrade to some HDMI cables?

What connection options from the cable box do you have? If it has HDMI
output then by all means use it as the plasma panel *might* be able to
upscale the signal and certainly from your DVD or Blueray unit use HDMI if
possible otherwise component followed by S-video and composite as the worse
option.
