Default hd dvd region free?

Hi guys

Been trying to find out if HD DVD is currently region free. all the reports
I have found say will be regional etc but no date of execution.

I am thinking of getting a Toshiba hd ep10 from play at £249.99 but I cannot
find the answers to these few questions

Is this Tosh region free for the HD DVD bit

Will it output HD on the Component outputs.

I have a projector capable of HD resolutions but the inputs are limited to
PC or S or composite or component or RGB. NO HDMI.

Thanks in advance

Gary

HD-DVD discs ARE currently region free (not sure about the future - you
could check at avsforum). So you should be able to play HD-DVD discs
from America, UK, etc.

However a UK HD-DVD player won't play back a region 1 Standard
Definition disc. But it will play back a region 0 or region 2 standard
definition disc (PAL and NTSC).

With Combo discs (HD-DVD on one side and standard def on the other), you
should definitely be able to play the HD-DVD side, but if the DVD side
is region coded as not 2 or 0 then you wouldn't be able to play that side.

As to the component - I think so, though they may in future change that
(in 2010 or something?). Technically I think studios could set a flag
at any point but I think they won't until 2010. Again, really not sure
about that, but I'm sure it was asked and answered at avsforum.
