Default ez codec , how can i view rip ??

hi, i have a dvd ,rip which says its a avi file , then there was a not
saying you need the " ez-codec "

but the codec is a scam , it has virus in it.
is there anyway to view this file ??
i`ve tried windows media player , and vlc and dvd x player , they dont work
..
