Default DVD vs CD?

I have a 600MB AVI file. Why does it take some 600 MB on a CD, but
3GB on a DVD? I thought I could pack some similar AVIs on a DVD disk,
but not at that rate.

Thanks

I'm sure you have asked this before unless there are many other Gecko's out
there? Anyway you can put about 7 x 600MB AVI files onto a DVDR making sure
you choose DATA .

Mebbe so. If so, I apologize. Senility takes its toll.

I'll have to try that to verify that my stand-alone player will play
AVI's. I should have done that.

For your avi uses mpeg4 or h264 codec, DVD uses mpeg2 video codec.
Comparing the advanced codec h264 > mpeg4 > mpeg2
