I've got an LG DVD Recorder. When I insert a DVD such as what I taped
on TV or recorded using a video camera or just playing a movie, it
comes up with a message saying 'Unknown Disc, Please check Disc again'
and the machine automatically ejects the disc. How do I fix this
problem? It used to work completely fine until a few weeks ago till
now.

Have you tried disconnecting it from the mains power for a few minutes,
then try again?

I've already tried that. The problem is still persisting.

It might be worth trying one of those CDs that clean the laser lens,
if you haven't already done that.

I have had exactly the same message with my LG DVD Recorder when I
have tried to play DVD's my friend has copied on his machine. I find
if I recopy them on my computer using DVD Shrink and ImageBurn they
play perfectly.
This may not be the same for you, as you say it used to work o.k until
a few weeks ago. What happens when you play a commercial disk, do you
get the same results or does it play fine. ?
Hi all,
I have similar problem with my DVD recorder - just purchased it. It plays all the disks I have, but can't record on timer (sometimes does record, mostly doesn't). But it works when I record online using the "Record" button.
Any help/suggestion?
I thought I have corrupted disks, but after reviewing your messages I understand the problem is the DVD and not the disks.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks a lot

Alex, can you give us a little info on the machine? In this case it
would hardly be the discs, sounds more like a problem with the machine
itself.
I am wondering if you're trying to record material which is blocked,
which the recorder might refuse.
Hi Paul,
I'm trying to record from the TV through cabels. And sometimes it works...Today tried to record a movie using the timer set. I saw the DVD recording (its Record sign was red, and I could see the recording time). Then ended, but when I tried to play the disc - "Unknown disc.." again. I'm using discs of DVD-R type. BTW, I can see on the discs opposite side that something recorded. They can't be opened on computer also, and do not behave as new discs.
The machine type is LG DR389.
Tried to record when the hyperband was ON and OFF, TV set ON/OFF, the recorder itself ON/OFF.
The material is not blocked, it's just a movie I watch (or does not watch) at the same time.
Yesterday I succeded to record just for testing (a few titles), but today didn't succeed.
Don't see any sequence causes to record/do not record
Thank you,
Alexandra

It sounds like the recordings are actually happening, but something
occurs after that. I can't find much info on the machine, if any at
all.
I am just checking that when you play the discs you play them in the
same machine and they fail? If you are playing them in another machine
you must make sure they are finalised before they will play.
If you're doing that correctly, or you are playing back in the machine
itself then it sound like a real problem.
As it is very new I think i would have a word with the store I bought
it from.
