I apologise if I am posting to the wrong newsgroup, but I am trying to find
a current DVD recorder that records to DVD+RW and creates/updates a menu as
it goes so that disc can be played on a PC/DVD player elsewhere without the
need for additional finalizing/menu creating steps. I quite like the new
Panasonics, but unfortunately you have to manually make a menu with each new
title added. Someone said recently that only Sonys do what I need, but I am
sure that can't be true.
As I am based in the UK, it would have to be available there.

My few-year-old Sony DVD recorder does that. I record almost
exclusively to DVD+RW discs because then I can use the recorder itself
to A-B edit and remove commercials.
If my older Sony model does it, I'm sure that whatever is the latest
version can do it as well.
I don't think I've ever bothered finalizing a DVD+RW disc; in fact, I
don't know that one can. The discs I've created just play in all the
(less than 5 years old) DVD players I've tried it in.

Hey! I love your music, especially that song "24." Is that song in
any way related to the TV series 24?

Thanks for your thoughts. Basically, I work for a school where the students
record themselves to DVD. We bought all Sony DVD recoders 2 years ago and
they have proven to be very unreliable and all developed the same fault
(approx 15-20 out of a batch of nearly 40). As you can imagine, I was
hoping to steer away from Sony for a while. Any other thoughts would be
most welcome.
Thanks for replying
Jem
Didn't know about the band, unless they were that cartoon group from the
80s. Made my life a misery at school

I had dvdr80 and I used it for cctv recording it lasted 18 months, recording
24hours a day for 6 months and casual recording say 4 hours a day for a
year. that was a lot of use. in the end the laser was temperamental and
could not guarantee a recording so was getting disk errors.
I had a Liton also at around this time . The drive was knackered in 1 year
and the recording was just a few disks around 30 at 6 hours. This was not a
good value machine. but was cheap to buy.
