Default dvd player won't play 5ch

Maybe this is a ridiculous question but, my AmW s99 player will only play
the English 2 ch audio track. When the 5 ch track is on, you can hear the
background noises or voice-over from the movie scene but not the dialogue.

Is this a problem with my TV stereo or something that can be fixed.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I may be barking up the wrong tree but I think you have to have a five
channel output to go along with the five channel sound. I don't own a
five channel system but that's how i would assume it would work, sound
going to four corner speakers and one centre. In this case i would
assume your tv is a two speaker set-up and should be used in normal
stereo. (2.3?)

I'm assuming you are feeding stereo from DVD to TV.
This DVD has built in decoder so is decoding all 5.1 channels and you are
only getting 2. The centre channel has all the talking and you wont have
that connected.
On the back it will have 6 outputs for decoded 5.1 channel and maybe two
extra for left/right only which should be the ones you are using.
Alternatively you need to look in setup and turn off 5.1 decoding as you
want to downmix to two channels.
