Default DVD player license fee

I have learnt that selling or manufacturing DVD player needs a license or
licenses. What are they for and how many licenses required?

Thanks,

Scott

Almost anything manufactured today involves something that someone (or some
company) was issued a patent for (even though most of them do not involve a
genuine innovation). The particulars of the DVD technology have some, as
well as licenses for issuance of keys that can decode the decoder keys on
the disc and make it possible to access DRM crippled content (keys that will
not be on future discs if the manufacturer violates the license restrictions).
Most of the licenses probably have a non-disclosure clause that prohibits
the details, including the cost, to be revealed (in part so they can offer
discounts to larger manufacturers).
