Can DIRECTV USE Antena input to record TV shows (ideally in HD but SD
would be ok too). I bought a used one and it work, but I don't have
a remote. I will buy a remote, if it can accept tv antenna
channels. I pluged in my coax antenna input to the unit, but it
gives me a message about unable to receive satelite signal. If not,
What about sending a tv signal from my plasma tv through HDMI cable?
The directv has a HDMI INPUT at the back. thanks.

No it does not, there are no HDMI "INPUTS" on any directv unit, just
OUTPUTS!!!!
If you have a direcTV DVR, you have to have an account with them.

It reads to me like the OP plugged his OTA TV antenna into the satellite
inputs of the box, so of course it won't work.
My satellite box has an actual OTA antenna input to a digital tuner, and I
can in fact schedule recordings from that input (I don't get very many
stations, though). It also pauses live TV and so on, just like the
satellite channels.

But in able to record those OTA statrions, you must have an active directv DVR
account

That is certainly true for watching and recording satellite TV. How do you
know it's true of OTA TV? The latter only requires a digital OTA tuner,
which my satellite receiver has, and OTA TV is free, after all.
I can understand that without an active account, one or another satellite
company might block their OTA TV tuner, but I have no reason a priori to
believe that all, or even any, such companies do this.
So I finally get to my question: how do you know that your claim is true?
How can I know that it's true?
BTW, I don't have an active directTV account, and my OTA tuner works fine.
But of course, I do have an active account with another company :-)

Sure your tuner works fine, but i am absolutely sure you are not recording OTA
on your DirecTV labeled DVR or DirecTV Tivo based DVR without a DVR fee.

I asked how you *know* this so surely for all STBs.

I "CAN" asure you that you are not using a DirecTV based DVR, whether DirecTV
OS based or DirecTV with TIVO based to record shows without a DVR account
