Default AVI to MPEG2 4 Hardware

Is there a consumer device that *reliably* converts DV-25 camcorder .avi to
DVD spec Mpeg2 in hardware in one step? I am not talking about capturing
and then separately converting, but doing the capture and conversion in
real-time.

The ADS boxes which purported to do this invariably do so unreliably, often
crashing.
