Default Widescreen authoring problem

Hi

I have captured widescreen video from our camera and saved as .avi files.
They play OK in Windows media player but, when I put it into Cyperlink
PowerDirector 6, it appears (and edits) in a squashed 720 x 576, 4:3 aspect
format! Even setting Cyberlink's aspect ratio to 16:9, it still stays at
4:3.

Is there anything, preferably free, that can stretch 720 x 576 to 1024 x 576
or even 720 x 405? (both 16:9 aspect)

Hoping someone can help...

Don

Replying to myself... duh!

Tried a few conversion programs but Cyberlink still showed the files in 4:3.
Well, big DUH!!! I finally read the help pages and found that all I had to
do was right-click on the file in the time line and indicate 16:9. Problem
solved. I'm posting my ignorance for the benefit of others that may have
the same duh problem.

Actually, your display of personal integrity could be very
helpful, for a long time. There are many who are finding NG
posts, that address issues of concern to them, through various
archive services.

Luck;
Ken
