Default What software to encode make DVD from HD source file

I can't find a decent app to convert a captured HD file to a standard
DVD format.

Screen size and bitrate don't seem to be the problem. It appears the
59.97 FPS -> 29.97 or 23.97 FPS is the problem. The audio ends up out
of sync.

I've worked with avidemux, AVS video Converter, TMPGEnc, Xillisoft,
Blaze and in fact some of those won't even start. they choke on the
file and abruptly terminate.

What's out there that can do this reliably.

Sony's Vegas is excellent.

What is the nature of this "captured HD file"? Is it a
system/program stream or a transport stream? What
is its file extension? What did you use to capture it?
Is it HDV or AVCHD or something else?

If it is some form of MPEG2 you might try runing it
through VideoReDo.

Ken

Generally mpeg2 albeit I occasionally encounter an avi container. My
tuner capture software does mpeg2.

You wouldn't be "Peterson28" from this videohelp.com
thread:?
http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archi...s-t313258.html

"Generally mpeg2 albeit I occasionally encounter an avi container."

You realize that while we can tell exactually what is needed, in the
way of video and audio stream formats for the DVD, the steps and
tools needed to get there, greatly depend on the exact format of the
source video and audio.

You could download the free trial at www.VideoReDo.com and
use its "Quickstream Fix" tool on your MPEG2 file. You could then
post any error messages that result. You could also use the "Copy
To Clipboard" button in the "Video Program Information" tool.
Then paste that into a post here.

Luck;
Ken

No, not me

Oh yeah, of course. I didn't want to "overdose" folks with technical
trivia and I'm sure since my HD files choke on the standard stuff that
I suppose was intended for SD I assume this is not an isolated
phenomena.

Secondly, I'm not impressed right now with the cost/benefit ratio that
HD brings to the plate and am waiting for...

1) Standards to actually become standard
2) Prices to drop

For now I have a PC Tuner capture card and a nice big monitor that is
capable of handling 1080i HD broadcasts all their pixel at 1920x1280
resolution so I can get my HD "fix".

But I've noticed I could squeeze a sharper picture out of football
game broadcasts. I'm a big time fan and like to breakdown game plans,
schemes, etc. All of this is much easier if the game is on a DVD.

The other task I encounter is a downloaded HD file, and that could be
almost anything. But that's a much rarer task.

I've been able to "downmix" games with avidemux but the audio will end
up about 1 second out of sync. Since it's a football game it's but a
minor annoyance. However the perfectionist in me wonders why this is
such a hassle and what I might be doing wrong as I'd like to be able
to fix it just because.

So that's basically the background info.

Having said all of that I found Sony Vegas is the tool that can
convert perfectly a 1080i broadcast -> 720x480 @29.97 FPS.

This I can easily work with.

I've also had VideoReDo around but really haven't tried it to put it
through it's paces at all. Finally last night I put both Vegas and
VideoReDo to work. Both did an exceptional job and I concur with
others that VideoReDo is a must have tool.

I probably made more progress on this last night than I've made in the
last 6 months. It was a good evening at the PC.

Tanks :-)

If that is a current version of either Plus or TVSuite, you can easly
fix that audio sync with "Adjust Audio..."" under the "Tools" tab.
VideoReDo does its work very quickly and produces great source
video for Vegas or any other MPEG capable NLE or Authoring
program.

Luck;
Ken

I've considered that as like I said I can encode HD with avidemux but
the audio is off. I do have a few apps that will adjust the audio
sync.

I haven't done that before because it would be very time consuming and
I'm not sure how to proceed.

Care to give me a few hints on how to handle that task? Do we shift
time wise or frame wise? How would you get a measure of how much shift
or do you just "wing it".
