I am using Windows 2000 SP4 and Nero v6. I want to write a CD which will permit
people without computers (!) to see photographs or .avi videos using their DVD
players.
I burned a VCD on a CD-RW as instructed. Played on my computer using WinDVD or
Power DVD the thumbnails and the pictures are blurry, and the menu isn't
interactive. On my DVD player the first menu page flashes briefly and then I
may be able to get one picture using a numeric key, but no menu, etc.
I tried the CD-RW/DVD-r drive in the laptop, and a La Cie DVD RW (still using
Nero) and the results were the same.
I'd like to try another burning software and would appreciate suggestions. I
haven't installed the La Cie 600+ MB software because it seems to want to take
over my computer with a lot of overhead and junque.

Thanks, but mine couldn't. I may have a slightly older DVD, but so would the
people to whom I would be sending the VCD. Just for trial I tried to open a
.jpg file with WinDVD and it wouldn't do it, either.

For those I used to make using TMPGEnc DVD Author,
I found that my player would have working menus only when
the "DVD" CD was burned using an ISO (data) format.
The .avi videos would need to be transcoded into DVD
compliant MPEG. So should the photos be made into a
slideshow DVD compliant MPEG video, prior to authoring
your MiniDVD.
