You mean literally? Just start the install & when it reaches where it
tells you that it is going to be installed into c:\program files etc
cut in and change the "C" for "D" & carry on. Good luck

be warned that many files (dll) are stored in \windows\system* and so
can't be on other disk

Yep. But the guy wanted to know how to install on d:\. I told him. My
guess he will have enough room on c:\ for the system files. But if he
doesn't....he'll still know how to install on d:\ :-)

I just wanted to say it's not possible to install most apps to a given
disk.
I have that problem time ago, setup a too small wndows partition.
shared apps are also frequently in c:\program files

The pirate is right, he answered the OP with valid, useful
information.
You are wrong, in that "apps" can usually be installed in any
partition of any drive. During the install of all programs, even
those in the root partition, all shared references and dependencies
are resolved and noted in the system registry. This is needed
so the programs can find and use all their various program segments
wherever they may be. In fact there is even an order to finding
the needed segments. (Remember the old trick of putting a special
version of a DLL in the same directory as the program that calls it,
so that special one will be used, instead of the one in the Windows
System or System32 directory.)
Programs installed to other drives/partitions will often still require
and use some minor, limited space in the root partition or drive; but
the vast majority of the program's files can reside in any designated
partition/drive.
Now the wisdom of installing a whole Nero package is another
subject.

did you try it really? I did for 3 years and know what I speak of.
May be this is *possible* but real apps don't works that way. anyway,
it's easy to try. I only gave a clue.
you know, for example "vuescan", a scanning utility very well nown
don't need any install, only to be unarchived in any folder and used
there, but such nice setup is not so frequent
that said I don't know how vista works in this respect, th OP didn't
say what OS version it uses

If you have to install to 'C', huge space can be saved by instructing
Nero to use another partition for all temp files -- I found huge probs
with installation when I tried to install Nero away from the common
program file destination, but space was saved by installing only the
features I needed, and using another partition for its temp files.
