I have a Panasonic camera. Makes fine pictures but if I also record sound then
that sound is only played back using the camera.
It will also record video but again that comes along in MOV files which are no
good to me - is there a solution to that,

You need to tell which model of camera you have.
"MOV" files could mean Apple's Quicktime, which is
the most likely the case. But there seems to more to
come given your post.

Thanks Ken - Yes it will be Quicktime from what I remember. The camera is a
Panansonic DMC-FZ50. It will come up with video as well as some very good Pics
in Jpeg and also Raw. However the bother I had was that I am going on Hols and
need for that to have some comments for later information- They are possible in
the first 10 seconds after exposure or later in the evening in the hotel or
camp. However they come up with a smaller pics and the audio all in a mov file.
There may be some day when the Canon DC51 is not available or ready for quick
shot and I therefore have a Mov File which needs to be converted.
I found a copy of a CoolEdit that will sort the sound in a MOV file and I can
therefore get the information and convert it to a Wav file - so the solution is
not one of extreme urgency
