Default DVD Speed

When using "DVDSHRINK" the speed when reading a DVD from a USB
DVD/reader/writer is twice as fast as reading from an internal DVD/reader
and DVD/reader/writer

Is there any reason for this?

well is the speed rated higher on the usb dvd
