Default CovertXtoDVD ?

First, thank you all for your suggestions.
Netmask, if I understand you correctly, CovertXtoDVD will keep all the
menu points, but just not the menu it self? That would be OK,, if so.

Not sure if the new ConvertXtoDVD version 3 will keep the original chapter
timings but will put one in every 5 minutes (or user designated times). If
you want to maintain the original chapter points of the original DVD then
you can use DVD shrink to do that. Just go to the Re Author tab and drag
the movie only over. The resulting DVD that will fit on a DVD-R will have
all the original chapter points preserved. Insert the movie hit play and
away it goes! But you can't achieve what you originally asked for ie shrink
a movie down to 500 meg or so and keep chapters etc - it just doesn't work
that way!! I suggest you join up with the forum at www.videohelp.com as
there are a lot of people who can offer suggestions and options.
