I'm not sure that it's even theoretically possible to do it any more
without some human judgment.

In the old days, there was always a half-second black between
commercial and program, but now it's not unusual to jump from
commercial to program or vice versa without even a single frame of
black.

The question doesn't require that it be totally automatic
and unattended.

Check out www.VideoReDo.com you won't be
disappointed.

Luck;

Download the program into a Hauppauge card or something similar where it is
in .mpg format. Open the file in TMPGEnc and it is easy to edit out a
single frame or a group of as many frames as you wish. You can then output
the result (with or without a menu) and save or burn the result to a DVD.

Good luck

I heard of something that is triggered by the B&W checkered square in
the top R/H corner just before the adds appear. No idea of the name,
tho'. The Japs brought out something as well.
