Default audio problems with DVD series

Hi -

I've bought a package of 24 DVDs. after about the 4th dvd, the audio is
distinctly low. I've managed to obtain decent audio using mp3Gain, but
saving the video as an avi in Virtual DubMod produced a file of almost 20
Gigabytes. What do I use to shrink the file back down to a reasonable size
(several 100 megabyte-size, say)?

What software would you suggest for processing all the VOB's into AVI's
given this problem? I'm looking for free software, if possible.

Why do you want to convert the DVD VOBs into "AVI"s?

If you were converting to "AVI" you could have converted to a
more compressed "AVI". You could have VDub produce a
more compressed "AVI" , instead of the compression you used
for the 20GB files.

You could demux the .vob file into .m2v and .mp2 or .mpa
correct the audio level and remux into DVD compliant .mpg.

Assuming these are commercial releases the problem seems to be your playback
gear - it seems to me an extraordinary chore to convert 24 DVD's to a lesser
format.

If you must then AutoGK will do the job for you in a nearly one-button
operation once the DVD's have been ripped to your hard disk.
