I just installed a new motherboard and cpu but use my old dvd rw drive and hdd but windows only recognize it as DVD ROM I checked the IDE cable and it looks fine. I have XP SP3 and Samsung Writemastre dvd rw drive (SH-S162A). tried updating drivers but no luck. It detects the drive correctly in BIOS. Not sure what the problem is. Pls help. Thanks!
I'm presuming that WinXP has not been reinstalled for the new
motherboard, and that any authentication issues caused by the new
motherboard have been sorted out?
It could be that installing the new motherboard has created a 'ghost'
device. probably several, actually. Probably you should rebuild the
hardware tree, but make sure that you have all the driver installation
disks before doing anything so drastic: http://tinyurl.com/nbk93f

Stick a blank DVD-R or RW disk in there and it will be reported as a
recordable drive.
