Default Why won't these disks play?

I am really confused and need help here.

I have two audio cd disks that I feel should both play fine in my
standalone players in my home theater setup. But they don't.
They do play however on my computer.

My players are:
RCA 1-disk DVD audio/video player
Sony 5-disk CD audio player

Disk 1 will play music just fine on both players.
CD-SPEED shows this disc info:
Disk Type: CD-R
Manufacturer: CMC Magnetics
MID: 97m25s66f
Write Speeds: 8X - 16X - 24X - 32X - 40X - 48X
Capacity: 79:59.71
Usage: General
Disc Status: Closed

Disk 2 will play music just fine on the RCA DVD player, but not the
Sony CD player.
CD-SPEED shows this disc info:
Disk Type: CD-R
Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden
MID: 97m24s01f
Write Speeds: 8X - 16X - 24X - 32X - 40X - 48X
Capacity: 79:59.72
Usage: General
Disc Status: Closed

Both CD disks look the same when I use WIndows Explorer to view the
content. They both have several track##.cda files, 1-up.

So - why won't disk 2 play on my Sony standalone audio cd player?

I should add that the good disk was made several months ago, using a
different burner. The bad disk was made yesterday.

This is Duke, and I am still desperate.
Since I have received no response from my original query, I did some
more thinking and testing.

First of all I forgot to mention that the disks involved before were
created by WMP.

I tried another CD disk that I had also made last week in the same
players. Same result. It played fine in the RCA DVD player, but not
in the SONY CD player. It has 27 of the track##.cda files, 1-up.

Just for kicks, I created a disk-to-disk copy of the disk, but using a
demo copy of NERO that I have. Guess what? The second disk, the
copy, plays beautifully in BOTH players. That's a surprise.

I have compared the two disks and seemingly they are identical as far
as content is concerned. Both are Taiyo Yudens, from the same bundle.
Since my comparing is visual, using Windows Explorer, I am wondering
what may be hidden on the disks that I cannot see. That's the only
explanation I can think of - that in fact the disk contents are not
identical in some way.

Anyone weigh in here? Besides telling me to scrap WMP that is. I've
already concluded that.

Duke

Hi Duke,

I would guess that the RCA machine is the better quality product and
is better able to cope with not-quite-perfect disks. Even the best
manufacturers are cutting corners these days to keep their prices
down.

Not to me. I once made a Backup copy (by Computer) of a music CD
for a Primary School ("Grade School"?) teacher. She rang me later
to tell me to discard the copy because she had found a couple of
tracks which jumped on the original. My copy played perfectly on
her machine.

There is a variation in the quality of discs which some players,
and burners, are able to override.

David

Sony players and drives I avoid because Sony are the world leaders in

built into any Sony player, and they do cause problems! Sorry no real
answer to your specific CD problem. I would also avoid using WMP for
anything serious!

my first action in these situations is always t reburn the faulty disc
at a slower speed.
