I have a Panasonic DMR-E85H DVD recorder that started flashing from
the off mode to PLEASE WAIT. When I unplugged it and then replugged
it, it will not power on. Any suggestions?

If you don't get a reply here worth noting try popping along to
avforums and posting in there dvd recorder section. They seem to get a
good response.

Recently there has been a discussion of a power supply problem common
to these aging Panasonic models. You can google the usenet groups.
The fix involved changing one or two capacitors in the power supply.
A friend's E85 died with the same problem as yours. He sent it back
to Panasonic and it was fixed for the flat cost of $130. He had
the unit back in about a week.
Choose option 3 for the first and 4 for the second.
Also, there is something to the capacitor suggestion, as it's a
widespread problem affecting many brands and models of electronic
equipment of a certain era.

**Did it come back with all the programs that were on the hard drive
intact? Do you know if they did any software updates to it or did they
just fix the capacitors?

The hard disk was intact. They did't say what they fixed.
