Default It looks to me like they changed coaxial cables on at least one DVDrecorder, this means that there must be others!

I have a Toshiba DVD recorder that's new and I tried to hook it up to
my television set, but there's a coaxial cable port I've never seen
before. It's not like any coaxial cable port I've ever seen. My
coaxial cables won't attach to it. If I bought one that does, then it
won't attach to my television.

There's only one coaxial cable port and there were two of them on all
the other DVD recorders, players and VCRs I've had.

Is it an F-connector?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F_connector

I suspect this might mean that the tuners in it are Satellite DVB-S
Tuners. CHECK THAT OUT VERY CAREFULLY. If they really are
terrestrial DVB-T tuners, then you can make up your own cable with an
F-connector at one end and the traditional 'Belling' type at the
other.

You know, if you had mentioned the model number, someone might have
been able to look it up and get an answer to your question.

Just sayin'.

The web site says, in the specs, "Coaxial Outputs (1)".

Page 11 of the manual shows a digital audio coax output, which is an
RCA jack. Page 2 of the spec sheet shows the same thing. Both pictures
show the following label on the jack:
"COAXIAL
DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT
PCM / BITSTREAM".

The first quote above was copied and pasted from the web page, and the
second from the PDF of the manual.

To be clear, it tells you (OP) that there is no RF-modulator.
I guess that HDMI isn't available on the TV, but try to use the
Component Video (YPbPr) output or the S-Video, or the "Video"
(Composite) outputs (together with the L-R sound connection).

If you really need an RF-connection it might be done with a separate
RF modulator connected to the "Video" and L-R outputs.

There will (most probably) be a significant difference in quality
between the different connection types, where RF is the worst.

Thank you, I don't understand this, but I have a feeling it's bad
news. I guess the recorder is only good for dubbing.

THis sounds like the worst-case-scenerio, it pays to check what kind
of connection types they have when shopping.

This recorder apparently doesn't have a built-in tuner (as do many DVD
recorders) so it doesn't have an RF out. If your TV only has an F
connector antenna input and no AV input of any sort, then you need to get
an RF modulator to connect it to the TV.

Because it has no tuner, it won't record from cable or over the air (OTA)
without an external tuner of some sort. For cable, a cable box is an
option, for analog cable even an old VCR could work. For OTA digital TV,
a coupon elegible coverter box will work.

If you need a built-in tuner, then return the unit and get one that has
it.

As others have pointed out, the 'coax' out is for digital audio, not
video.
