Default DVD-RW Recording Problem

I finally broke down a bought a DVD recorder mostly for putting my VHS
on DVD. Well, we decided to tape some TV programs on a DVD-RW. This
worked find the first few times, but then... a few minutes into the
recording, all it shows is the channels flipping, and then finally
settles on one channel and stays there... but NOT the channel I was
recording. I cannot find anything in the manual (shocker) on this
problem. You are supposed to be able to watch TV while you record.
Any ideas?

It would help us immensely if you told us which recorder you were
referring to.

Most recorders, if not all, will not allow you to flick channels while
recording through the tuner so I am wondering if you were recording
through the AV/inputs and changed channel or maybe you changed channel
on cable or sky or such?

As long as you're addressing the proper tuner...

:O) That's why i asked for details. Our newest machine only has one
digital tuner, no analogue. the previous had both, but you couldn't
record from one and watch the other, it was just analogue and digital.

Oops, sorry, I guess that would help!

It's a Panasonic DMR-EZ17

hm, for some reason I can't get the machine's details on panasonic's
sites. I'd say you have the newest version of their smallest recorder
though and it appears, from adverts, that it has analogue/digital
tuners? On the models I have had with those two tuners it did not
allow you to watch one tuner and record from the other, it simply
tagged the analogue channels onto the end of the digital tuner. On the
other hand I have just tried an experiment on my machine (a bigger
model) and once record is pressed you can't change channel no matter
what.

Do you have a cable or satellite system hooked up? The only thing I
can think is that you were recording from an outside source and
changed the channel on that? Oh, and possibly, although I haven't
tried it myself, the TVlink thing? You can set it up to record from
the tv, so maybe you have done this and then changed channel on the
tv, hence changing the channel the machine was recording?

These are just guesses. Has it happened since?

It happened again this last Tuesday, so about 2 weeks since my last
post. I think we are going to call Panisonic since my 30 days is up
to return/replace it. We weren't watching TV on Tuesday so why it
flipped through channels, no idea. We have straight, basic cable, and
no digital box, so it's all analog on our end.

Yeah, i think you're right to complain. It is very unusual, I don't
think I've ever heard of this one before
