Default Correcting DVD audio sync problem

I have a set of DVD files on my harddrive - when played the audio is a
fraction of a second out of sync - the video is ahead of the audio.

Can I take the audio out and remix it back in correctly synced or is there
another better way of curing it before I burn it to disk ?

Thanks for any help.

The easiest way would be with www.VideoReDo.com 's
TVSuite version, most likely, but how did you get the DVD
files on your harddrive? Was it the result of authoring the
DVD in a DVD Authoring program? If so, which program?

If your authoring program allows for it, you may be able to
correct it during a re-authoring of the DVD.

While you should be able to adjust each audio and video
stream's playback with PgcEdit, I can't think of how to do
it. I would have to look into it, maybe someone else knows
already. I have found it easier to just correct the source
audio/video sync and re-make the DVD.

Luck;
Ken

Ken, thanks for the reply. The DVD was authored somewhere else - all I
have are a complete set of VOB's etc. Would it be fairly straightforward
to adjust the audio using VideoReDo ? Any rough idea of the steps. I am
fairly used to using products like TMPG and more recently VirtualDub for
messing around with AVI's but I must admit to knowing nothing about VOB's
and standard DVD's.

Thanks

If the folder containing the .vob files also contains an .ifo file,
you would use the "Open Title from a DVD..." selection under
the "File" tab. Browse to the folder and select a title for
VideoReDo to work on. (There is probably only the one in
the situation you describe. )

Select "Adjust Audio..." from the "Tools" tab.

Try moving the slider to +215 and -215 listening to a section
that was noticably out of sync. This should give you an idea of
how much and in which direction to make the correction.

When you have it playing as you want, it is ready to create an
edited .mpg file or used to create a new DVD of ISO image file.

To make an .mpg file: just click on the "Save As" button.
Answer "Yes" to the popup question. Then name and select a
location to place the new in sync. .mpg file. (You can use the
new file in your favorite DVD Authoring program, transcode/
convert it to a file your portable device can play, or just have it
for playback off your hard drive.)

If you want to use VideoReDo's little DVD authoring function:

Click on the "DVD" tab and select "Add current project to DVD
title list" -or- Click on the "Add title to DVD" button

-and/or-

Click on the "Create DVD" button.

( Now, there are a number of options here, most
can be ignored, if you are in a hurry or find them
intimidating.)

The first time using the DVD creation function, you
will need to select whether you want to:

"Author to VIDEO_TS" (Create a folder on your
harddrive) [ You can make an up to 10GB folder ]

or

"Author to VIDEO_TS and burn DVD" ( Launches
the DVD Burner after authoring the DVD. This
selection has three options; "Verify disk after burning"
"Erase RW disk automatically" and "Delete
VIDEO_TS after burning") [There are other burning
options when the DVD Burner application is up.]

or

"Create ISO file" (Creates an image of the
VIDEO_TS folder/DVD in an .iso file on your
harddrive.)

You can change the "Menu Options" including setting
it to "No menu" ( I won't get into all the things you can
do to customize your menus, but you should checkout
the "Change text" and "Edit Template" buttons. If you
use a menu, you will want to set the "When DVD starts"
and "When title ends" options.

The "Output options" box displays Source and DVD
properties and lets you set "Accept non-compliant DVD
settings" and "Include closed captions". The yellow flags
indicate when VideoReDo will need to spend a little more
time than it normally would, if the change required by the
output options displayed is used. You can use the
"Change output options" button to adjust things to your
liking, including "Video Cropping and Sizing".

The "Author" button at the bottom will start the process.

Post back if the folder only has .vob files in it, and I'll
describe the process to join the .vob.

Luck;
Ken

Ken, Again, thank you fo taking the time to reply. That looks like it
will make sense - I get an idea of the process now. Just for the sake of
completeness I would like to check that it does not sound like I will be
able to keep the existing titles and menu structure etc ? I can live with
this but just want ot check I have read it right. The set of files I have
are a complete DVD set including bup's and ifo's etc.

Thanks again.

There are programs like DVDRemake Pro

http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/index.php

but I wouldn't recomend them to someone not very familuar
with the DVD Specifications and how they are implemented.
It's not that that you couldn't learn how to use them to do
what you want, fairly easily, but that they are fairly costly to
use for just that. You won't get your money's worth, unless
you make more use of the program.

In general you will need to author the DVD again in some
fashion. You may be able extract the menu background
graphics and use that to make the new menu. I could
help you through that process if you want. (You mentioned
TMPG experience, would that include TMPGEnc DVD
Author (TDA) ? )

Luck;
Ken

Ken, thanks again for your help.

I have looked at DVDRemake - it does not seem too expensive to me to use.
Is there a fairly straightforward way of just adjusting the audio using
it ? I have downloaded a demo but have not tried it yet.

Thanks

As far as I can remember it didn't have an audio sync adjustment
feature, like the ones in VideoReDo or VDub. But I made very little
use of the program and it could be there some place. ( I do make
use of the very simple program that predated "Remake", it is called
"MenuEdit". ) I have other tools that allow me to recreate any menu
I might want, and otherwise work with the DVD structure. I pointed
out "DVDRemake Pro" because you were looking to "reuse" the
existing menus of the DVD, not for fixing the audio. It is one of very
few that made an effort to automate and simplify the process to reuse
the menus from an existing DVD.

Luck;
Ken
