Default Speaking of Irfanview - remembering folders..?

I like most of Irfanview, but one thing... I open a file from thumbnail
view and then want to save it under a new name *in that folder*. But
Irfanview wants to save the file in whatever folder I last saved a file
in - it doesn't use the current folder.

Maybe my workflow is odd but I find the extra clicks to navigate my way
to the current folder annoying.

I'm missing something obvious?

That's common to most programs for the "Save As" function and very annoying
in all of them.

I presume you mean image browsers? Photoshop doesn't do it, nor do any
Office-type programs, afaik. I also use a very old version of Thumbs
Plus, and it has an option to use current folder. Can't find a similar
option in Irfanview, sadly.

At least I'm not alone!

Photoshop does. I wrote a framing script for PS3 and when I start working
with photos in a new folder the first save as prompts me to save in the
folder I had used for an earlier shoot. I switch that to a new folder and
then that folder sticks for the rest of the scripting.

Use control-S (rather than Save As from the file menu).

Just use 'Save", not 'Save as', works for the same folder.

Note that he stated he wants to save it with "a new name".

Noted! It will save just the same in the same folder, Try it
with the new name, only don't use 'Save as'.

There is a solution, at least a partial one. There is a commercial
program called File-Ex. This is a replacement for the Windows File
Selector dialog, which you can set to always use a certain folder for an
application open routine. There are many other features as well, and it
is one of the few OS 'enhancements' I have purchased.

Can it be configured on an application-specific basis, or will it hand
*all* apps the directory you've set it to?
