Or for programs that go to 'My Pictures' etc, put a shortcut in that
folder.

Irfanview gives you a chance to confirm or change the name, it won't
overwrite anything. It's a dangerous move to make in other programs, I
only do that with irfanview, and raw files in photoshop.

Works by application. It will remember the last directory used by an
application. Very handy.

Okay, my bad. I thought by "you can set to always use a certain folder
for an application open routine" you meant you could designate one, not
just have it "remember the last directory used by an application".

That's the key-code for save rather than save as, but oddly, Irfanview still
allows a name change, behaving like a save as command.
