Default Shutter Sticks in Waterproof Case

Hello-

When I scuba my Canon camera is enclosed in a WP-DC5 waterproof case.

Sometime the button for the shutter sticks in a half way down position.

I always clean the case in fresh water and I have also tried injecting
silicone grease into the lubricating slot of that button but it still
sticks sometimes.

Anyone else have this problem?
Solutions?

Thanks

When you immerse the housing in fresh water, push all the buttons on
the housing in and out several times to flush the outer parts of the
seals. If the buttons are sticking, it's probably because there's salt
in there.

Could be a couple of things.

Improper cleaning. By leaving salt or silt to harden on the o-ring or
button surface, that can cause it to jam up. Simply splashing water
into the area will not help now. You need to fully dismantle the
fitting, clean and lubricate.

O-ring deterioration. Rubber breaks down over time when exposed to
petroleum distillates or ozone. As the rubber breaks down, it can become
tacky and "grab" whatever fitting is trying to move past it. This can
happen when the o-ring is not lubricated properly. The fix is to
disassemble the fitting, replace and re-lube the o-ring.

If the fitting is not one that can be taken apart (re. glued in), then
you are out of luck. Just try soaking it in a Salt-X solution to
completely neutralize any salt crystals and then do your lubricating thing.

Just my $.02
