Default is it possible to manually change the focus in AF mode with a Nikkor55-200mm VR?

Hello,

I was considering the 55-200mm VR lens from Nikon as a not so
expensive telezoom.
After reading the specs and some review on the web (e.g.
http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/55-200mm-vr.htm
), it is not clear to me if this lens allows manual change of the
focus in AF mode.
Does anybody know the answer to this question?

Thanks

If you flip the lens switch to "M", you can do manual focus. If you take
the camera out of AF mode, you can do manual focus.

Plus you can just adjust the focus any time, even with auto-focus enabled
and even after the camera tried its part already, because it's an AF-S lens.

there are two types of afs lenses: one which can be manually overridden
at any time and a less expensive version that requires it to be
switched into manual. the 55-200mm is the latter type. the way to
tell is look at the autofocus switch. the former will have an 'm/a'
setting and the latter will have either 'a' or 'm'.

Really? Ok, just learned something new. So far I wasn't aware of the
"cheaper" version. Thank you.

Is there any difference between the VR model and the non VR model
55-200mm?
The VR (Vibration Reduction) is more recent.

Thanks

... and of significantly better optical quality, according to reports.

Two totally different lenses, in size, weight, objective size, etc. Just
look for yourself on the Nikon USA website.

Are you sure you're talking about the same lenses? They are very similar
apart from the image-stabilisation and better performance of the later
model.

http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/55200.htm
- weight 255g
- size 68 x 79mm

http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/55-200mm-vr.htm
- weight 335g
- size 73 x 99.5mm

Cheers,
David

My mistake. I was quickly looking at the Nikon Lens Spec at a glance
pdf and made mistakenly compared two different lenses.
