He probably would have claimed that some fancy P&S setting with IS
would obviate the need for carrying a tripod.

Its simple confirmation bias. He has to convince himself that
whatever he bought wasn't a mistake.

BTW, I've uploaded the "obnoxious sounds of a dSLR terrifies an apex
predator into running away" movie.

The URL to the --> 8MB <-- file is:

<http://www.photo-hh.com/katavi.avi>

BTW, that *is* a Better Beamer being used on the strobe, too.
Horrors! Look at them flee!

Here's what two of the still images (shot at the same time as the
video) turned out like:

YMMV as to how obvious it is which one is the P&S and which is the
dSLR system.

These were taken in Katavi National Park in Tanzania, which receives
<500 visitors per year.

Some nicad and NiMH chargers will run off a 12 volt lighter plug.

Will you have access to a car or truck? If yes, and the vehicle has no
power outlet, then you can buy aa unit that plugs into the cigarette
lighter socket, and converts to 110 volts A.C..
