I like the night photo. More dramatic than the day photo.

Seconded. The day shot is boring. The lights reflecting off of the
statue at night make for a much more interesting picture.

As a bare minimum, you should have used fill-flash on the day picture.
The bright sky forced your camera to choose a setting that presented the
horseman almost in total silhouette.......No detail at all.
