Hi
I'm currently in Europe and am coming home on leave. Can anyone give
me the location of a mial order firm with the best US$ prices on the
K-100D and K-10D? I want a US warrenty which is the reason I'm
asking. I have an ist DL which I'm very happy with but its got over
20,000 shots thru it and it won't last forever.

It's been a LONG time, Dave, but when I was in West Germany late
1970 to early 1972, there were two really fine PX camera stores,
one in Stuttgart and the other in Augsburg. I was stationed about
in the middle in Ulm, so it was about a 90 minute drive to either.
Both these specialized PXs also carried audio equipment. So, my
question to you is, are there still any good camera PXs in whatever
country you are in and if yes, are they close enough for you to get
to? In my day, prices on the Nikkor lenses and other Nikon
Photomoic FTN accessories I was buying was REALLY a lot less than
American retail. To your other query, since the gear I was buying
was in the familiar Nikon gold boxes and was imported through a
U.S. distributor, I had no trouble with American warranties.
Besides B&H in New York, do you have friends or relatives that
could buy it for you here and ship it insured to Europe? Again, my
experience is almost 40 years ago, but there was no customs duty
coming into West Germany and I had receipts from the PX so I had no
trouble when I shipped everything home when I was discharged (no, I
didn't try to pack all that stuff in my duffel bag! <grin>

The cheapest cameras, including Pentax, I have come across in Europe
are sold via Pixmania.com (http://www.pixmania.com/). I bought my *ist
DS via them. However, with the US dollar at a low, you might find it
cheaper in the US.
