Sell it to someone that doesn't know any better but wants to desperately impress
others with their shiny new toy. Then use the money to purchase a better camera
that doesn't make all those annoying, distracting, animal frightening, useless
noises that continually announce the short life-expectancy of its mechanical
shutter and image-jarring mirror mechanism to the world.
hint: you won't find a camera like that in another dSLR make and model.

You've already got a thread to troll about this issue in. How about
keeping it going there rather than deliberately trying to drag this
thread in to an unrelated topic?

How is it unrelated? Apparently he never saw that thread OF VALUABLE INFORMATION
or he'd realize it's a waste of time trying to make ANY dSLR silent.
Or is it that you can't live with that FACT and any mention of it just reminds
you too of what a waste of money any dSLR actually is.
Of course I know that's why it bothers you so much, or you wouldn't have even
posted this comment of yours. Too bad. Deal with it, you useless troll.

Look here, you are the Troll.
Instead of giving a reasoned answer to the rather silly question of the OP,
you leapt in with a barrage about all DSLRs.
If you don't like Cameras with Focal Plane Shutters, so be it.
Don't buy one, and use a camera with a leaf Shutter.
Every design of Camera has its advantages and disadvantages.
Stop insulting every-one who happens to disagree with your opinion.
You will, of course, note that I have not slagged off any kind of Camera
design.

To answer your question, you obviously must come from a compact of some
sort where the shutter sounds are produced electronically, to mimic
mechanical shutters in cameras that don't actually have a shutter, the
purpose being to enable people to know that a photo has been taken - if
that suits them. That sound can be turned off.
The sound you hear from a 400D - or any dslr camera is mechanically
made, by the the mirror and shutter actuation. It cannot be turned off,
it is integral to the camera design.
And I'd appreciate no rant from 'selfImporant", his thread elsewhere is
more than enough.
If his camera knowledge is on the level of his spelling, he's got a bit
to learn.

Hey resident TROLL, I believe you forgot what you said just a few days ago:

Not only was your reply to the person 100% dead-wrong, but this also make you
nothing but a miserable liar and reveals you for the troll that you truly are.
I'll do like the person that responded to you said to do. Put you in a
troll-filter forever and be done with your inexperienced and ridiculous advice.
All your words are nothing but wastes of time that everyone has to wade through
to get to something worth reading.

I did indeed say that.
The context of where I said it is important. It was in a thread discussing
the use of Built in Flash on small P & S Cameras.
I did say "Real Camera" but that could just as easily apply to the Top End P
& S. Which do have Hot Shoes and are much more capable than the small P & S.
Not a lot of small P&S have the ability to add an external Flash on a
swivelling bracket to avoid side shadows.
The person you quoted, about my response, advocated the use of a second
Flash on an external wireless mount to fill in the shadows. How many small
P & S users would go to that bother, as Ron Baird commented, " rather an
extreme solution".
I take pictures at events, and I could very easily mount a second flash on a
lighting stand, with or without a brolly, to eliminate these shadows and
fire it wirelessly.
Doing so would intrude upon the event rather more than a photographer with
one Camera and a bracket mounted Flash.
Too many people expect the small P & S Cameras to be able to take "perfect"
photos in fully automatic mode, under difficult conditions, then complain
when the results are not "perfect".
As I said, I have not slagged off the design of any type of camera, but I
also said that every design has limitations.
Your conclusions may, I suspect, say more about you than about me.

Doesn't the user manual tell you how to turn off sounds? I do not have
the 400d but page 94 of your manual which I quickly downloaded from
Canon tells you how to turn off the beep that occurs when focus is achieved.
